Description
The RTL8306E-CG is a 6-port Fast Ethernet switch controller that integrates various functions into a single chip. It combines memory, six MACs (Media Access Controllers), and five physical layer transceivers, supporting 10Base-T and 100Base-TX operation. The controller also features a Dual MII/RMII interface, allowing external devices to connect to the 5th and 6th MACs and PHYs. These external devices can include routing engines, HomePNA, HomePlug, or VDSL transceivers, depending on the application.
For network diagnostics, the RTL8306E includes a loopback feature for each port, facilitating easier troubleshooting. Additionally, it supports advanced Quality of Service (QoS) functions to enhance multimedia and real-time networking applications. These QoS features include multi-priority assignment, differential queue weighting, port-based and queue-based rate limiting, and a 16-entry Access Control List (ACL) for advanced packet control applications.
